Peter Peachey: First time we met each other would have been in Townsville.
Rob Pilgrim: So my area was basically the whole Queensland coast and then inland. So a massive area. So, obviously we didn't have a private jet to get around. So, there was a lot of planning and a lot of travel. And, you know, the fringe benefit of it all was you've got to see parts of the countryside you'd never would normally see, I guess. We've been to all corners of the state, really, haven't we? Peter: Pretty much mate, yeah.
Rob: And, you know...
Peter: Enjoyed some really good times in those, in those little particular, sort of, country regional towns. Back in those days if the member wanted something, that's where we went. We were there for the member, regardless of what it was or where it was, basically.
Rob: There was that sort of drive to make this thing work. You know, there was a lot of spirit between the team to make sure that, you know, we did everything we could for the Members.
Peter: Capricorn world was one big family, really. Everybody knew everybody. So we were all as one.
Rob: We used to sort of say we were good cop, bad cop, a little bit. [Interviewer: Which one was which?] He was the good cop.
Peter: Back in those days I think everybody had a home office, which was a fax phone, and a single page printer.
Rob: And you come home from a long day out and all the paper from the fax machines were all over the floor half the time, because everybody's been sending you things.
Peter: The Member had to be a paid up member, to join. So they had to pay up front. So we'd have a pile of cheques and cash, in some case. So we had to wander down to the bank and bank it, and then put all the stuff into an Air Express bag and send it back to Perth for processing. I see you’re holding a tie there, that was part of our uniform. We had to wear a white business shirt and a tie every day, regardless whether we were in North Queensland or South Queensland.
Rob: The first time I went to Cairns got off the plane it's probably 40 degrees, 110% humidity and it's like spot the guy who’s just flown in from down south. [Interviewer: a white shirt, in a mechanics?] Peter: Yeah it wasn't good. Wasn't good.
Rob: There's not too many places you could say that you've worked there for 20 years, and there's always new Members.
Peter: I think that spirit is still there you know, in the background. Things have changed. Yes it's changed a little bit. But I think that cooperative basis where we come from is still there.
Rob: Oh, there you go! Who cares? Well, we do.
