The Honda Urban EV is breaking the mould, with the concept being so popular that it will be on the production line in late 2019.

Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2017, the Honda Urban EV concept car certainly turned some heads. Most concept vehicles remain exactly that, a concept. Some manufacturers may apply certain elements or features of their concept vehicles to production models however, that is usually where it ends. The Honda Urban EV is breaking the mould, with the concept being so popular that it will be on the production line in late 2019. The simplistic design and retro styling have been a hit and as a result, Honda will be making very few changes to the final design. With Honda welcoming pre-orders from early 2019, more detailed information relating to specifications and performance will be revealed soon however, they did state that the car would not be cheap despite it being a supermini. Honda is positioning the Urban EV as a premium model.

The Urban EV has low and wide proportions and uses a Honda emblem backlit in blue which is a new styling feature for future electric vehicles from the brand. Interactive messages can be displayed between the headlights including greetings, advice for other drivers and charging status updates. The concept can accommodate four occupants, but a production version is likely to allow five.

With the NSX supercar being the only current electrified model, the Honda Urban EV could potentially be the first ever large production electric vehicle from Honda to hit the Australian and New Zealand markets in the future.
