Described as a “curious and determined problem solver,” Lachlan is passionate about tackling complex electrical faults and delivering precise, high-quality work.
So, it’s no surprise Lachlan picked up the Capricorn Rising Stars Region Winner Award for New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory (NSW/ACT). This Award recognises apprentices who go above and beyond, have a great attitude and show initiative in the workshop.
Lachlan’s journey began in the family garage, where he grew up helping his mechanic father. This early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for the trade, which he’s now honing at Homebush Auto Electrical in Lidcombe. His methodical approach and commitment to learning have seen him solve some of the most challenging faults in the workshop, from tracing a damaged ECU wire to uncovering a hidden parasitic drain.
One turning point in his development came when he mastered the use of an oscilloscope to diagnose a misfire, a skill he says changed the way he approaches every job. Always striving to improve, Lachlan takes every opportunity to expand his expertise and refine his diagnostic skills.
Looking ahead, Lachlan’s ambition is to run his own workshop within five years, combining technical excellence with a strong focus on mentoring younger apprentices and improving diagnostics across the industry.
"In five years, I see myself stepping into a leadership role, ideally managing or even running a workshop. I’m committed to learning everything I can now to set myself up for that future," Lachlan said.
Lachlan is hugely appreciative to Capricorn, Castrol, Repco and The Workshop Whisperer for recognising apprentices who are committed to their craft and the future of the automotive industry.
Well done to all the apprentices who were nominated. A nomination alone is an outstanding achievement and testament to your skills and talents.
