Performance under pressure: Hudson Rhodes named the Capricorn Rising Stars Region Winner for WA

From diagnosing a Lamborghini misfire to installing flame-tuned exhausts on McLarens, Hudson Rhodes is proving that precision, passion and a positive attitude are a powerful combination. Now named the Western Australia Region Winner in the 2025 Capricorn Rising Stars Awards, Hudson is earning trust in one of the most high-performance workshops in the country and doing it all as a second-year apprentice.

Capricorn Rising Stars Awards shine a spotlight on the next generation of automotive talent from across Australia and New Zealand. This year for the first time ever, Capricorn is recognising Region Winners alongside an Overall Winner, celebrating more apprentices than ever before.

Hudson’s journey began with a fascination for engines and a natural curiosity for how things work. That passion led him to Racing Dynamics in Malaga, where he’s now working on some of the world’s most elite vehicles, including Lamborghinis, McLarens, and other high-performance machines.

Despite being early in his career, Hudson has already made a name for himself. When a Lamborghini Huracán came in with a misfire, Hudson took the lead on diagnosing and resolving the issue, a rare responsibility for someone as a second-year apprentice. He has also been trusted with performance modifications, including a standout project installing catless pipes on a McLaren 570S to achieve a flame-tuned exhaust.

“I’ve learned that attitude is just as important as ability,” Hudson said. “In this trade, you need to stay calm under pressure, keep learning, and always back yourself, especially when you’re working on vehicles where precision is everything.”

Hudson’s story reflects the growing sophistication of Australia’s automotive industry, where apprentices are expected to master both mechanical fundamentals and cutting-edge technology. According to the 2025 Capricorn State of the Nation report, workshops across the country are investing in the next generation of talent to meet rising demand and evolving vehicle systems.

Capricorn Group CEO, Brad Gannon, said Hudson exemplifies the qualities the Rising Stars Awards were created to celebrate.

“Hudson’s initiative, technical confidence and maturity under pressure are remarkable for someone so early in their career,” Brad Gannon said.

“The future of our industry depends on young professionals like Hudson who combine curiosity, communication, and a commitment to excellence.”

The Rising Stars Awards, supported by Castrol, Repco and The Workshop Whisperer, recognise outstanding apprentices across Australia and New Zealand. They celebrate those who go above and beyond, take initiative, and show a genuine commitment to the future of the automotive industry.
