Orange automotive apprentice Ryan Buttriss has been named the NSW/ACT Regional Winner in the 2026 Capricorn Rising Stars Awards.

A fourth-generation automotive professional, Ryan is completing his apprenticeship at Wisharts Automotive Services. He is also involved in rallying and circuit racing across New South Wales and Victoria, complementing his workshop experience with hands-on motorsport involvement.

Ryan receives $3,000 cash as a Regional Winner and will now be considered for the Overall Australian Rising Star Award.

Capricorn Group Chief Executive Officer Brad Gannon said Ryan demonstrated the qualities of a future industry leader.

"Ryan's enthusiasm for the automotive industry extends well beyond the workshop, and that's reflected in everything he does.

"His commitment to continually building his knowledge, combined with his passion for motorsport and emerging vehicle technology, makes him an exciting talent to watch."

Wisharts Automotive Services owner Daniel Wishart said Ryan regularly went beyond what was expected of an apprentice.

“He regularly goes above and beyond what is expected, whether that's undertaking overtime, returning to the workshop after TAFE or immersing himself in motorsport activities outside of work. His commitment to the industry is second to none.”

“What excites me most is the increasing technical demands on technicians,” Ryan said.

“As vehicles become more advanced, we need to continue building our knowledge and understanding. I want to help change perceptions of the industry and show that modern technicians are highly skilled professionals who understand how systems work, not just how to replace parts.”

The Capricorn Overall Australian Rising Stars Award will be announced on 2 October 2026.
