Cody Chapman didn’t just learn the ropes, he grabbed them and steered the team.
Hailing from a family of mechanics and growing up around engines since childhood, it was only fitting that Cody chose to become a diesel fitter… and excel in the role!
Cody picked up the Capricorn Rising Stars Region Winner Award for Queensland, which recognises mechanical apprentices who go above and beyond, have a great attitude and show initiative in the workshop.
Since starting his apprenticeship with Morgan Transport Group, Cody has shown impressive skill, maturity and leadership. When the workshop supervisor was unwell, Cody stepped in without hesitation, managing bookings, coordinating two tradespeople and four apprentices and ensuring all vehicles were repaired on time.
One of Cody’s proudest technical achievements was rebuilding a Cummins X15 engine from the ground up. The experience gave him a deeper understanding of engine internals and boosted his confidence in tackling complex mechanical tasks.
Knowing the value of his own apprenticeship, Cody is committed to helping others develop and grow in the industry. He’s passionate about mentoring junior apprentices, always ready to explain, guide and support.
“I want to absorb all the knowledge I can so I have the opportunity to pass what I have onto future apprentices that might work under me.” Cody said.
Cody has also gone the extra mile by gaining additional skills voluntarily, acquiring a forklift ticket and MC truck licence. He sees himself running the workshop full-time within the next five years and is already laying the groundwork for that goal, having recently been made workshop supervisor.
Cody is hugely appreciative to Capricorn, Castrol, Repco and The Workshop Whisperer for recognising apprentices who care deeply about their craft and community.
Well done to all the apprentices who were nominated! A nomination alone is an outstanding achievement and testament to your skills and talents.
