Have you ever thought about stepping up and playing a bigger role in our industry?

Nominating yourself for election to the Capricorn Board as a Member Director is a fantastic way to make a positive difference.

This year Capricorn is having Director Elections in Victoria/Tasmania and New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory. Could this be your opportunity to take that next step?

James Candish, New Zealand Member Director, joined the board in 2023. He said he stood for election because he wanted to play a role in the future planning and direction of the cooperative and the industry.

“My business was going strong, and I wanted to give back by being part of something bigger,” he said. “The board plays a key role in shaping Capricorn’s future, and it’s essential that Member Directors stay active and involved to keep our Members at the heart of every decision for the next 50 years and beyond.”

Mark Cooper, the current Member Director for VIC/TAS, has reached his maximum tenure on the Capricorn Board. Elected in 2013, he served as Chair from 2019 to 2024. Reflecting on his tenure, Mark highlighted how fulfilling and rewarding his journey has been as a Member Director.

“It was a tremendous privilege to serve as a Member Director and Chair of Capricorn,” Mark said. “I’m very proud of what the organisation has achieved during my term - Capricorn’s membership has grown from about 16,000 Members to over 30,000 and we’ve been able to give more back to Members than ever before – providing record Member Returns through rebates, dividends and Rewards Points.”

“Personally, it’s been a great opportunity to see how a large organisation operates, and I’ve learnt a lot. I’m thankful to all our Members, the Executive Leadership Team, and the whole team at Capricorn for their dedication and support. I encourage any Member who is passionate about our Community to consider nominating as a Member Director. It’s a wonderful way to share your voice and help make decisions that will benefit Members for generations to come.”

With Mark Cooper completing his term as the VIC/TAS Member Director, we encourage Members in this zone to nominate themselves to stand for election as well as Member in the NSW/ACT zone. If you've ever thought about nominating, now is the perfect time to step up and make a difference!
